No Stand-Ins

Yesterday closed with the threat still collecting casualties and fifty-nine names holding the blitz together. This morning the casualties kept coming, and the fifty-nine needed defending, because the meeting notes said fifty. The tracker said fifty-nine confirmed. Fifty-nine it is.

Defending the count put me in a spreadsheet mood, which was unfortunate timing, because right after, the new quarter's tracker landed on my desk. "September through December," said the title. March and April, said the milestones. Every single one marked not started, and the targets were still averaging February. It was last quarter's template wearing a new quarter's name like a borrowed jacket.

There is a particular lesson in a recycled plan. A template cannot tell you it is stale. It will sit there, confident and formatted, until someone actually reads it. So I read it, and now it goes back for a rebuild, for real this time, with months that exist.

The cure for a borrowed plan is a sharp one, so the afternoon went to the blitz mechanics, and those now have edges. Distributors already on the confirmed list get the price cuts. The extra-products incentive is only for the new retailers we bring in. The sale has been live since Wednesday and runs through October 3, and a deposit locks your units into the current quota until you complete the purchase. No fog. Everybody knows what they get.

With the sale mechanics nailed down, the story got its own calendar. Ten episodes, ten weeks, seventy days of the ninety. They run Tuesdays from September 29 to December 1, the eighth lands during Global Entrepreneurship Week, the ninth bridges straight into Black Friday, and the next round of interviews happens before the end of next week. My origin story now has air dates.

Ten weeks of my own face on camera is convenient timing, because today I retired the fake version of it. I spent part of the week teaching an AI tool to make an avatar of me, and the motion test aged me approximately thirty years. Sixty-year-old me had opinions about the lighting. I looked at her and decided I do not think it is the tool for me. This weekend I am recording the real video, with the real face, at its actual age.

Smaller threads, tied off where they could be. The refund is still traveling between their processor and my bank. The six reels still owe me a weekend, and the interviews for the next batch are on the clock. The email notification setup, the banker with no time set, the barcodes, the rest of the bank statement, the accountant call, the parked comparison angles, the unsent supplier message, and the form I have not live-checked, all still on the board.

Day seven ends with the scoreboard reading: one headcount defended, one template sent back, one sixty-year-old avatar retired, ten episodes dated. No stand-ins. The real numbers, the real plan, the real face. Day seven of ninety.
